What a first passport costs at the Post Office

If you apply in person at a Post Office, you pay USPS the $35.00 acceptance fee, plus $15.00 if it takes the photo, and you pay the State Department's application fee separately. Bring a photo that meets the rules and you skip the $15.00.

Skip the photo fee

The Post Office doesn't sell photo prints. Make the photo free with our passport photo maker and print the 4×6 sheet at Walmart ($0.18), Walgreens ($0.39) or CVS ($0.42), then bring one photo to your appointment. Prices and sources are on the passport photo cost page. Renewing online? The tool saves the digital file, so you don't need the USB.
