Published prices before tax, checked Sept 25, 2026. Prices change and can vary by store, so check the total before you pay.

• Walmart: $7.64. A USB copy for online renewal is optional; its price wasn't shown.
• USPS: $15.00 photo fee.
• FedEx Office: $15.95 for prints or a digital copy. Both cost more.
• Walgreens: $16.99 for 2 photos, with a digital copy by email included.
• CVS: $17.99 for 2 prints. A digital copy by email is $3.99 more, and a USB $10.99 more.
• Costco: no current passport photo service found.

The State Department's passport photo page lists three places to get a passport photo: an acceptance facility that takes one when you apply, any company that offers photo services, or a friend or family member. It notes that acceptance facilities and photo vendors charge different fees.

Print your own for under $1

Take the photo at home, make it with the free US passport photo maker, and save the 4×6 print sheet. For a US passport, the sheet holds 2 photos at true 2×2 inch size. Order it as an ordinary 4×6 print, not as a passport photo.

Walgreens charges $0.29 a print for 100 or more. Walmart's price is from its photo prints page. We couldn't confirm the current CVS 4×6 price on Sept 25, 2026, so check the price with CVS before you order.

The math

• A US passport application needs 1 photo. One 4×6 print gives you 2, so you have a spare.
• Walmart: the $0.18 print instead of the $7.64 service saves $7.46.
• Walgreens: the $0.39 print instead of the $16.99 service saves $16.60.
• CVS: the service with a digital copy costs $17.99 + $3.99 = $21.98. A Walmart print of your own photo costs $0.18.
• Two identical photos, for forms that ask for them: one print covers it.
• Four photos: order the same sheet twice, $0.36 at Walmart or $0.78 at Walgreens.

How to order the 4×6 print

1. Save the 4×6 print sheet from the tool to your phone or computer.
2. Open the store's photo app or website and start a regular prints order, not the passport photo service.
3. Upload the sheet and pick the 4×6 size. Turn off crop, fit and auto-enhance.
4. Pick up the print and measure one photo with a ruler: exactly 2 × 2 inches.

Which option to choose

A store service is the easy route if you'd rather have someone take the photo. It costs $7.64 to $17.99. Doing it yourself costs under $1, but it takes a helper or a phone stand, a plain white wall, good light and a few minutes. The free passport photo checker tells you what to fix before you print.

Either way, the photo must meet the same rules. A photo from a store can be rejected too, so look at it before you leave.
